Just what this world needs. Thank you USA for not curing Cancer and making more weapons. Set your priorities straight.
Yep its a shame, especially when they allready dominate militarily. Such a waste
oh great so now we have to do EVERYTHING for you huh? And besides we like weaponry. Metalstorm by the way is an Australian company contracted by the US DoD. As far as the railguns (EM guns) go, the major physial problem is that the round travels so fast down the armature of the weapon that the plasma wave welds the round to the rails effectively ejecting some superheated gas out of the barrel and killing the weapon...But have no fear there will be a solution soon..probably some kind of carbon resin with metal embedded...who knows.
I for one won't apologize for my nation's excellent contributions to science especially in the realm of erectile dysfunction. I think all women and men should love U.S. Pharmaceuticals for this reason alone.
We will be the ones to cure cancer by the way, you may continue doing nothing to help. Thanks.

Edited by: Justin Cody on 29/07/2006 03:55:02 true, an rail gun is not the only type of EM gun, however it is in the category and while not alone it is one of the more popular weapons in sci-fi and in reality.
what I can't wait for is the next generation of plasma-kinetic weapons which will be very interesting.

'Sovinec, C.R. and R.E. Peterkin, Jr. "Phase 1B MARAUDER Computer Simulations-Formation of Plasma Torus." Weapons Lab., Kirkland AFB, NM: Weapons Laboratory, 1990. In: Conference Record - Abstracts. 1990 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, Oakland, CA, 21-23 May 1990. p. 167-168. Abstract: Summary form only given. The MARAUDER (magnetically accelerated rings to achieve ultrahigh directed energy and radiation) program at the US Air Force Weapons Laboratory is a study of magnetically confined plasma toroids that will convert stored electrostatic energy into plasma kinetic energy. The first phase of the experimentation only forms the toroids and does not attempt to compress and accelerate them. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) calculations have been performed with the 2-1/2 dimensional code MACH2 in support of this phase. The simulations demonstrate the formation of the torus, including reconnection of the poloidal magnetic field components. Number densities in the toroids are on the order of 10/sup 16/ per cm/sup 3/, and the magnetic induction is on the order of 1 T. A series of calculations shows that only a limited range of discharge energy will produce toroids. Too little energy will not push the plasma through the initial, injected poloidal field; too much will not allow a good reconnection.' please get back on topic, this is a thread about railguns not U.S. foreign policy. I would be happy to take it up with anyone in game, but please get back on track.
What will be even more interesting is when they have scaled the railguns down far enough to be mounted on our main battle tanks, and later...perhaps gauss rifles for soldiers.
